About Dogs Bar
Dogs Bar
54 Acland St , St Kilda

In 2010 Dogs Bar 'Arts Hub' ran over 200 arts events across live music, cabaret, storytelling, film screenings, burlesque, poetry and visual art shows. This year there are more events with the addition of a theatre space, St. Kilda MeMo, providing the opportunity to increase the number and size of events and to hold onto some arts & culture and the artists and performers that make it happen.

Dogs Bar is part of a small group of businesses under the same family ownership in St. Kilda since 2001. With SLOWdown Eco Café and Hotel Colombo apartments, along with St. Kilda MEMO and St. Kilda Functions, there's always something going on at one or more of these spaces.

Dogs Bar was established in 1989 and was the first "Bar" in Australia. (At the time there were only 2,800 liquor licenses in Victoria, the Government has since de-regulated liquor licensing and Victoria now has approximately 25,000 licensed premises.) Opened by Donleavy Fitzpatrick who a few years later developed the old George Hotel into several smaller bars, Dogs Bar has lots of heritage and is considered by most to be an institution in St. Kilda.
